Background

French-Syrian billionaire businessman, born c. 1948 as an orphan in a Bedouin tribe in Syria. Immigrated to France, earned PhD in computer science, worked at Abu Dhabi National Oil Company. Founded Altrad Group in 1985, which became a global leader in scaffolding and construction services with $2.6B+ in annual revenue. Also owns Montpellier Hérault Rugby club. Found guilty of rugby bribery and influence peddling in December 2022.
